Our actions align with our stated values and commitments. We operate with honesty in everything we do. We keep our promises, admit our mistakes, and treat everyone fairly. We choose transparency over convenience and long-term relationships over short-term gains.
Obsess over customers
We make decisions by asking "What's best for the customer?" - whether that's external clients or internal stakeholders. We actively listen to their challenges, anticipate their needs, and go beyond solving immediate problems to address underlying challenges. We measure success by their outcomes, not our efforts.
Strive for excellence
We take pride in delivering quality work and commit to continuous improvement in our outcomes. We pay attention to details that make a difference and invest time in doing things right the first time, developing capabilities that matter to our customers and teammates.

OUR CULTURE OF INNOVATION
Codefest: One big idea, two weeks of innovation, 10K+ lines of code
Codefest is an annual fall initiative that takes one powerful product idea generated during our spring Hackathon and invites athenistas to spend two weeks bringing it to life. Participants seize the opportunity to team up with colleagues from across the company, work with new technologies, solve challenging problems, and quickly deliver product enhancements that promote health equity and improve our customers’ experience. In 2024, Codefest focused on curing complexity around social determinants of health.

Coming together to support accessible healthcare for all
athenaGives is our platform for social impact. It was established to help expand access to high-quality healthcare for all now, and to support the development of the providers and technologists who will drive access for all in the future. Our efforts include philanthropy, volunteering, in-kind products and services, scholarships supporting STEM education opportunities, athenaNet research on healthcare disparities, and recruiting a diverse and inclusive workforce.

Empowering and supporting a diverse, equitable and inclusive athenaNation
athenahealth Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) are a space for athenistas to come together with colleagues who share important aspects of their identities, and to amplify the perspectives of underrepresented groups. ERGs are a core element of our inclusive culture and a key enabler of athenistas’ sense of connection and their professional growth.
